As part of the New Horizon for Seniors Program grant that the library received the library was able to:

Make more connections with: other organizations; with people who are serving or have served seniors with dementia; and with people living with dementia.  Library staff connected with the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds, Greenville staff, two library patrons who are in early stages of dementia, three caregivers dealing with spouses / relatives living with dementia.  A staff member has a father that has recently been diagnosed with dementia.

Create and catalogue six dementia kits for people living with dementia to borrow. Each dementia kit contains: communication guide; activity sheet bundle; pencil crayons; All About Me conversations starter sheets; aqua paint; water holder; paint brush; jigsaw puzzle; spin fidget widget; lift player radio; sensory fidget, and picture books.

Purchased and set up the Obie gaming projector and trained staff how to use the projector. The Obie is a sensory interactive gaming projector used for therapeutic play, it has the ability to detect the most subtle hand or body movement.

Hosted a seven-week speaker series with the local the Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds, Greenville.  A staff member from the Alzheimer society presented the five of the workshops and a financial planner presented the other two.

Collected input from seniors on what other supports the library could provide. We set up a committee that consisted of a patient with dementia, his wife, a staff member of the local Alzheimer Society of Lanark, Leeds, Greenville and library staff.  The information provided us enabled us to purchased books, stuffed cat, dog, and a baby doll, two VR headsets and a 360-degree camera that will allow us to create immersive local video experiences for seniors using our new VR headsets.
